In order to be able to carry out the tasks of a nursing professional, advanced language skills and technical vocabulary is needed. As part of the "FiVo" project trainees at Wohlfahrtswerk’s educational centre receive a special support: Language learning is directly integrated into theoretical and practical lessons.
Nursing educators are qualified as language learning coaches in six workshops. They analyse the learning content provided in the lessons with regard to the linguistic requirements and integrate language learning methods into the specific learning situation. The trainees' language acquisition should therefore be situation- and action-oriented.
In the workshops, the implemented measures are evaluated to see which language teaching methods are effective from the perspective of the nursing educators. The aim of the project is to develop a repeatable approach to language learning that contributes to improved understanding of the teaching content and its subsequent application in professional practice.
The project is funded by the Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Integration Baden-Württemberg within the programme “Modellprojekte der Sprachförderung” from state funds approved by the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.
